MultiplayerNo. Big Walk does not support couch co-op, local multiplayer, or split-screen. The official FAQ says people cannot properly play together in the same room, and Nintendo lists one player on a single Switch 2 system. A normal Big Walk session is online and supports 2–12 players, with one player using each participating system and screen.
Friends in the same home can still play together online if they use separate supported devices and, ideally, separate rooms. This matters because Big Walk turns distance, walls, echoes, and in-game communication tools into part of the adventure. Last checked: August 11, 2026.
The direct couch co-op answer
Big Walk has no option that divides one television or monitor into several player views. Connecting another controller does not create a second local character, and the published single-system player count is one. The group joins an online host rather than opening a local multiplayer menu.
This answer applies to Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Crossplay lets those platforms share an online session, but crossplay does not add split-screen. Controller support also does not prove local co-op; it only describes how one player can control the game on that device.
The official Nintendo store page makes the difference especially clear for Switch 2: one player on a single system and 2–12 players online. The official Big Walk FAQ gives the same overall online group range and directly explains why people in one room will not get the intended experience.
Why playing on one screen does not fit Big Walk
Big Walk is built around friends sometimes being separated. Nearby voices can fade, terrain can block communication, and tools such as walkie-talkies help the group reconnect. Text chat follows the same broad communication design rather than acting like an unlimited global party channel.
If several people were watching and hearing the same screen, they would receive information their characters are meant to discover separately. The official FAQ specifically warns that people in the same room would hear each other outside the game, which bypasses the communication challenges. This is a design explanation, not evidence that a hidden local mode exists.
GamesRadar also describes the absence of couch co-op while discussing the game’s communication-focused design. That independent report supports the official answer, but the platform stores and official FAQ remain the primary sources for the actual feature status.
Can people in the same house play together?
Yes, if each person can launch Big Walk on a separate supported device and join the same online session. The official FAQ says this can work when players are in separate rooms. Headphones are useful because they keep one player’s game audio and voice from leaking into another player’s microphone.
Use separate screens and keep enough physical distance that players cannot simply overhear every instruction. Closing doors is not a technical requirement, but it can preserve the intended communication puzzles. If players remain next to each other, the online session may still connect, yet the group will not experience the communication design as intended.
Each device must be able to run a compatible version of Big Walk and access its online features. Store ownership, subscriptions, and account requirements can vary by platform, region, and household setup, so check the current platform store before buying extra hardware or copies. Do not assume that one purchase automatically grants every person access.
A safe same-home setup
Choose the host before starting. The host owns the saved world and must load it again when the group continues. Pick the person whose device, internet connection, and availability are most reliable.
Then use this setup:
- Put each player on a separate supported system and display.
- Update Big Walk and compare the first two version numbers on the main menu.
- Use headphones where possible to prevent voice feedback and overhearing.
- Let the host create or load the intended world and finish loading into it.
- Join through the platform friend list or the host’s current Join Code.
- Test voice or text chat while standing close together in the game before exploring.
If the group mixes platforms, use the Big Walk crossplay guide for the supported-platform and version checks. If a friend cannot enter the host’s world, follow the Join Code guide instead of repeatedly retrying an old invitation.
What every local group needs
Big Walk officially supports groups of 2–12, so two online players are enough to begin a supported world. The host chooses a 2-player, 3-player, or 4+ world setup based on the minimum number expected to participate, not the maximum number invited. Read the player-count guide before creating a long-running save.
A microphone is optional. The official FAQ says the full game can be played with built-in text chat, which uses the game’s distance-aware communication rules. This can be helpful in a shared home when voice feedback is difficult to control. The play without a microphone guide explains that setup.
Do not replace the in-game communication system with account sharing or unofficial remote-control tools. Those methods are not documented local co-op features and may create privacy, security, or latency problems without giving each player a proper view.
Big Walk couch co-op FAQ
Does Big Walk have split-screen on PS5?
No. The official FAQ does not list a local or split-screen mode on PS5. Big Walk multiplayer is an online host session, even when the players are in the same home.
Can two people play Big Walk on one Switch 2?
No. Nintendo lists one player for a single system and 2–12 players online. A second controller does not create a second local player.
Can two PC players share one monitor?
There is no official shared-screen, split-screen, or local multiplayer mode on PC or Mac. Each participant needs a separate running game view for the intended online experience.
Can we play from different rooms in one house?

Is Big Walk online co-op?
