Big Walk supports 2–12 players in one session. Two is the minimum and twelve is the maximum party size. When the host creates a world, the official FAQ says they choose a setup intended for 2 players, 3 players, or 4+ players.

For solo play, crossplay, matchmaking, and joining rules, use the Big Walk multiplayer guide. This page stays focused on the number of people who can share one session. Last checked: August 15, 2026.

How many people can play Big Walk at once?

The smallest supported world setup is two players. Big Walk is built as a cooperative adventure, and the official FAQ explicitly says there is no single-player mode. One person can start a world and walk around a little, but the FAQ warns that they will not get very far.

The maximum group size is twelve people in one session. This limit applies to the supported session range, not the number of people playing worldwide. A larger community or Steam concurrent-player count does not change the in-game party limit.

The confirmed range is 2–12 on every supported platform. An unusual clip does not confirm a higher limit, and a specific world setup does not reduce the official maximum. The host’s selected setup adapts parts of the world without changing that published upper limit.

What the 2-player, 3-player, and 4+ setups mean

The host chooses a world setup intended for 2 players, 3 players, or 4+ players. The official FAQ says to treat that choice as the minimum number expected to participate during the session, not as a maximum. The full supported party range remains 2–12.

The official sources do not document every puzzle or world difference between those choices. Do not assume that a selection changes only difficulty, object count, or puzzle layout without current evidence. Read the current in-game description before treating an unlisted difference as a rule.

Choose the lower option when some friends will only join for part of the session. That is the official recommendation for changing attendance, because the selected setup adapts parts of the world to the expected minimum group. Check the current in-game description before assuming a long-running world can be converted later.

Can you play Big Walk with two people?

Yes. Two players are officially supported, and there is a dedicated 2-player world setup. This is the smallest normal Big Walk group.

Both players still need compatible game versions and a working host session. The host opens the world and sets the required session password; the second player joins through a friend list or with the current Join Code and password. Crossplay allows the two players to use different supported platforms.

Two-player support does not mean one player can complete the same setup alone. A solo host may enter and explore briefly, but the FAQ says they will not get far. The 2-player option is the smallest supported setup for progressing through the cooperative game.

Can twelve people play together?

Yes. The current maximum is twelve people in the same session. The host should select the 4+ setup for a group larger than three.

A large group places more importance on a stable host. The official troubleshooting guidance says host connection and performance may affect other players. Choose a host with a reliable connection and a supported device.

The host should load the world before sharing invitations or the current Join Code and session password. Ask guests to compare the first two version numbers before a large session so one outdated build does not cause repeated failed joins. Add players in a controlled order when diagnosing a problem.

Does party size change by platform?

The official FAQ gives one 2–12 player range and confirms crossplay. It does not publish a smaller party limit for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, or Nintendo Switch 2. Use the same confirmed range across those platforms.

Platform joining interfaces may differ. The Mac App Store version lacks a Game Center friend list, so those players use the current Join Code and the host’s session password. That is a friend-list limitation, not a different party-size limit.

Do not confuse local controller support with online session size. Big Walk does not support couch co-op or split-screen, and Nintendo lists one player on a single Switch 2 system. Use the couch co-op guide for same-home setups with separate devices and rooms.

Does crossplay change the Big Walk player limit?

No. The same confirmed 2–12 player range applies across the supported Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. Crossplay changes which platforms can share a session, not the minimum or maximum group size.

Party size, matchmaking, and joining are separate questions. Big Walk supports 2–12 people but has no random matchmaking; the host starts a world and friends join through a platform friend list or with the current Join Code and session password. Read the multiplayer guide for those session rules.

Host ownership in a larger group

One player owns the saved world progress. That host must start the same world for the group to continue later. Guests cannot independently open the host’s save based on the current official information.

Choose the host before the first long session. Pick someone who is likely to return and whose device and internet connection are stable. This avoids both progress confusion and a session where every guest inherits the host’s instability.

Do not share platform account credentials to give someone access to the host’s save. The current Join Code and the host’s session password are enough to enter the active world; neither is a platform login. Account passwords, recovery codes, and payment information should remain private.

Big Walk player count FAQ

What is the Big Walk player limit?

Twelve players. The official supported range is 2–12 people in one session. The host uses the 4+ setup for groups larger than three.

What is the minimum number of players?

Two for supported progression. Big Walk has a 2-player setup and no official single-player mode, although the FAQ says one person can start and walk around briefly before cooperative requirements stop further progress.

Is the Steam player count the same as party size?

No. Steam concurrency counts how many Steam users are running the game at a moment. Party size is the number of people in one hosted world, which is 2–12.

Does Big Walk scale to three players?

The host can select a 3-player world setup. The official sources do not fully document the exact puzzle differences, so use the current in-game description for the latest details.

Can a party mix PC and console players?

Yes. Big Walk supports crossplay across Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Use matching versions and the current Join Code plus the host’s session password when needed.
