Big Walk supports crossplay between Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. One player hosts a world, then supported-platform friends join through a platform friend list or the host’s Join Code. The first two version numbers shown in the game must match.
Big Walk does not have a solo mode or random online matchmaking. Crossplay lets existing friends on different platforms share a session; it does not automatically find players. These facts are confirmed by the official FAQ and official platform listings.
Big Walk crossplay platforms
The supported platform list is Windows and macOS on computers, plus PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on consoles. The official Big Walk site links to the relevant platform stores, while the FAQ confirms cross-platform play. Older or unlisted console versions should not be assumed.
Crossplay support means a group can mix the listed platforms. It does not mean every platform uses the same friend-list interface. The Join Code gives the host and guests a common route when platform friend systems are different.
Check the official site before purchasing for an unlisted device. Do not interpret cloud streaming, compatibility layers, or an older console family as official support unless House House or Panic adds it. The currently confirmed platforms are Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
How to start a cross-platform session
Choose one player to host because that person will keep the saved world progress. The host starts the intended world, chooses the setup for the group size, and waits until loading has finished. Friends should connect only after the host is inside.
Open the active session details and share the current Join Code privately. Guests enter it through the game’s joining interface. Menu wording can change between versions, so follow the labels shown in the current build.
The same host needs to open that save for a later session. A different player can host another world, but the current official information does not describe a save-transfer feature. Crossplay changes who can join, not who owns progress.
Check version compatibility
Look at the version text at the bottom of the main menu on every platform. The official FAQ says the first two numbers must match. A correct Join Code cannot connect builds that are not compatible.
Finish any pending platform update and fully restart Big Walk. Cross-platform updates may not become available at exactly the same moment, so a temporary mismatch can explain a failed session. Wait for the remaining platform build rather than downloading unofficial files.
Include both platform names and displayed versions in a support report if the mismatch remains. That evidence is more useful than reporting only “crossplay is broken.” It gives support a direct comparison of the builds that failed to connect. Recheck the official FAQ after patches because compatibility guidance may change.
Friend lists and Join Codes
Use a platform friend list when it shows the intended host. If the host is missing or the group uses different platform ecosystems, switch to the current Join Code. The official FAQ presents both methods as normal joining options.
The Mac App Store version does not provide a Game Center friend list. A Join Code remains the official route for joining there. This limitation does not mean the Mac build lacks online play or crossplay.
After a host restarts, use the new active session details. An old invitation may point to a session that no longer exists. Keep the code private and do not share any platform login or recovery information.
Does crossplay require an account link?
The official sources do not document a separate Big Walk account-linking process. Friend lists and Join Codes are the confirmed joining methods. If an extra account or permission screen appears, make sure it belongs to the game or your platform before continuing.
Do not follow an unofficial page that asks for account credentials to “enable” crossplay. A game-session code is not a platform password. Use only the game and platform interfaces you already trust.
No extra Big Walk account step is currently documented. Avoid any third-party setup that asks for credentials; the confirmed routes are platform friend lists and Join Codes. A Join Code is session information, not a platform login.
Can you play Big Walk solo?
Big Walk has no single-player mode. The official FAQ says one person can start a game and walk around a little, but will not get very far because progression is designed for cooperative multiplayer. A complete playthrough therefore needs a group, with two players as the smallest supported setup.
Crossplay can make it easier to assemble that group because friends can use different supported platforms. It does not add a solo campaign or remove the cooperative requirements. There is no verified solo toggle to enable from a platform menu.
Do not buy Big Walk expecting the short solo opening to work as a full single-player experience. The official distinction is clear: limited solo exploration is possible, but the game has no supported solo mode. Full progress is designed around cooperative roles and communication.
Troubleshoot a crossplay join
First confirm that the host is fully loaded in the world. Then compare the first two version numbers and use a current Join Code. Fully restart the guest’s game before asking the host to restart the session.
If several guests fail, check whether the host sees a connection warning. The official troubleshooting guidance says host network or performance conditions may affect the group. Reduce heavy network use or test a wired connection for instability.
Do not begin with port forwarding, firewall deletion, a VPN, or unofficial game files. Those steps are not part of the current official crossplay checklist. Use the connection guide if the host, version, restart, and code sequence fails.
Big Walk crossplay FAQ
Is Big Walk cross-platform between PC and PS5?
Yes. Windows or macOS players can share a session with PlayStation 5 players through supported crossplay. Use the host’s current Join Code when the platform friend list is not enough.
Does Big Walk support Switch 2 crossplay?
Yes. Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the officially listed platforms, and the FAQ confirms crossplay. The first two in-game version numbers still need to match.
Can PS4, Xbox, or the original Switch play Big Walk?
PS4, Xbox, and the original Switch are not currently listed as supported platforms. Do not assume support based on another version or backward compatibility. Check the official site for any future addition.
Is crossplay the same as matchmaking?
No. Crossplay lets supported platforms connect, while matchmaking automatically finds players. Big Walk supports crossplay but has no random online matchmaking.
Can a cross-platform friend keep my save?
The host owns the saved world. Crossplay does not transfer that progress to a guest on another platform. The same host must start the world again.
